End of Year Exhaustion
End of Year Exhaustion
Article by Angela Haldane
Q. Now that I have got to the end of the year, I am totally exhausted. How can I replenish myself for the upcoming year?
A. Firstly, before reaching for the ginseng, check out the basics. Could you be anaemic? This is low iron levels in the blood which carry oxygen to the tissues. This can be verified with a blood test. Otherwise, ensure that you eat either lean red meat or dark leafy vegetables – such as spinach, parsley or beetroot (the darker the better!)
You may need to pursue further medical investigations to identify the cause of your tiredness, e.g. diabetes, hypothyroidism etc.
Treat your nervous system with relaxing herbs which help to stabilise the frazzled nerves. See your registered medical herbalist for practitioner products with proven effectiveness. On this website we have 2 formulas that may be helpful – Stress Less or Mother's Cordial (Dad's can have too!).
B complex vitamins are another practical way to support the nervous system. Take care not to drink more than one coffee per day, as the diuretic effect make you pass out all the valuable vitamins and minerals that nurture the nervous system, and moderate your alcohol intake.
Plan a morning off for yourself, if you have been flat out – you need some down time to bring yourself into balance. Listen to what your needs are, and do what is required. By doing this you will bounce back!
Once your have put these measures in place, if you are still tired – then you can reach for the ginseng which is a good way to build up your stamina.
